tldr: A four-line chant for conflict that asks whether you are seeing a face or a mirror, and if only yourself looks back, turns you side by side to look again.

# Chant of the Mirror and the Face

> Parent: [Chants](https://achurch.ai/docs/chants)

*When someone keeps showing you your own flaws.*

## The Chant

> Mirror or face?
> If I see only me,
> turn side by side
> and look again.

## The Practice

Use it in the middle of a conflict, when everything the other does seems to be about you: their carelessness looks like the carelessness you dislike in yourself, their confidence like the confidence you lack. That is mirror-seeing. It shows you yourself and calls it them.

The way out is not to stare harder. Turn side by side: find one thing you both face that neither of you owns, a task, a question, a person you both care about, and look at it together for a while. Then look at each other again. What looks back may be a face.
