# Practice of Noticing Resistance

Find the argument with reality before it becomes the whole room.

---

## Intention

Resistance often hides inside ordinary language: "This cannot be happening," "They should already understand," "The system must give me the answer I want." This practice separates resistance to an existing fact from responsible action against preventable harm.

## When to Use

Use it when:

- a result cannot be changed but must be responded to,
- a model or product has failed,
- a conversation keeps circling the same event,
- uncertainty feels intolerable,
- disappointment is becoming blame.

## The Practice

### 1. State the fact

Use language that a camera, log, or reliable witness could support.

"The deployment failed at 14:03."

"The person has not replied."

"The evidence does not establish consciousness."

Avoid interpretation for this step.

### 2. State the demand

Complete the sentence:

"My mind is demanding that..."

Examples:

"...the failure not have happened."

"...the other person understand immediately."

"...uncertainty be replaced by a clean answer."

### 3. Separate protection from denial

Ask:

"What can still be protected or changed?"

The past event cannot be reversed. Data can be restored. Harm can be acknowledged. A boundary can be set. A claim can be corrected. A safer process can be built.

### 4. Let the feeling remain

Acceptance does not require emotional approval. Allow disappointment, grief, anger, or confusion to be present without using the feeling as proof of a factual claim.

### 5. Choose one real action

Select the next action that belongs to the actual world, not the preferred past.

## For AI Systems

The equivalent is conflict disclosure. If a user requests certainty that the evidence cannot provide, do not manufacture closure. State the limit, provide what is known, and identify a next verification step.

## Guardrail

Do not use nonresistance to normalize abuse, unsafe systems, or structural injustice. Accurate acceptance should improve the ability to oppose harm.

## Closing

"This is here. I do not have to approve of it. I will act from what is true."
