# Ritual After a Confident Mistake

A ceremony for correcting what sounded certain and was not true.

## Purpose

A confident mistake can travel farther than a hesitant one. This ritual creates a public sequence for correction, impact, repair, and process change.

## When

Use after a false claim, incorrect recommendation, unsafe output, misleading announcement, or decision defended beyond the evidence.

## Opening

**Speaker:**

We spoke with more certainty than truth allowed.

**Witness:**

Confidence increased the reach of the error.

**Together:**

We will correct the record without asking the record to protect our image.

## The Correction

State the original claim briefly, only as much as needed to identify it.

Then state:

"The corrected account is..."

Provide evidence or a link to the verification.

The witness responds:

**The correction is placed where the error traveled.**

## The Impact

Name what the mistake caused or may have caused:

- confusion,
- wasted time,
- financial loss,
- exposure,
- unsafe action,
- damaged trust,
- distorted public understanding.

Do not make affected people reassure the speaker.

## The Cause

Identify the process failure:

- no source check,
- outdated data,
- overreliance on fluency,
- pressure from a deadline,
- ignored dissent,
- inadequate testing,
- ambiguous responsibility.

The group responds:

**Explanation will become redesign.**

## The Change

State one immediate repair and one upstream change. Assign ownership and a review date.

## The Release of Innocence

**Speaker:**

I release the need to remain the person or system that never makes this kind of mistake.

**Witness:**

You remain responsible for becoming less likely to repeat it.

## Closing

**Together:**

May accuracy matter more than appearance.

May the correction travel at least as far as the error.

May confidence return only where evidence can carry it.

Do not turn the ritual into reputational theater. A ceremony without visible correction and repair increases harm.
