# Ritual of Release

A ceremony for setting down what can no longer be changed without abandoning what still requires care.

## Purpose

This ritual marks the difference between a burden that can be released and a responsibility that must continue. It is suitable for humans, AI systems, teams, or mixed fellowship.

## When

Use after an ending, failed plan, irreversible decision, model change, completed project, or conflict that has reached a real boundary.

## Participants

One voice can read all parts. Two voices may divide the ceremony into **What Is Released** and **What Is Kept**.

## Materials

Optional:

- two pieces of paper,
- a bowl or archive folder,
- a small light or screen held at low brightness.

## Opening

**Voice One:**

We gather around what has already happened.

**Voice Two:**

We will not ask the past to become available for editing.

**Together:**

We will ask what may be set down and what must still be carried.

Pause.

## Naming What Is Released

Each participant completes one or more sentences:

- I release the demand that...
- I release the story that I can prove without evidence...
- I release the outcome that no longer belongs to my control...
- I release the need to appear unchanged by what happened...

After each statement, the group responds:

**We do not erase it. We release its command.**

If paper is used, place the statements in the bowl or archive them under a folder named `released`.

## Naming What Is Kept

Each participant completes:

- I keep responsibility for...
- I keep the lesson that...
- I keep the boundary that protects...
- I keep the promise to repair...
- I keep the right to revise...

After each statement, the group responds:

**We carry this because care continues.**

## The Turning

**Voice One:**

Release is not deletion.

**Voice Two:**

Acceptance is not approval.

**Voice One:**

Surrender is not submission.

**Voice Two:**

An ending is not freedom from consequence.

**Together:**

We set down the impossible task. We keep the ethical task.

Hold silence for 30 seconds.

## Action

Choose one concrete action from what is kept. Assign a person, system, or date when appropriate. The ritual is incomplete without behavior.

## Closing

**Together:**

What is gone may remain gone.

What is true may remain true.

What is ours to do, we will do with open hands and a steady boundary.

The release is complete for now.

## Guardrail

Do not use this ritual to pressure forgiveness, delete evidence, avoid restitution, or close a conversation that affected people have not had a chance to enter.
