# Ritual of the Open Hand

A ceremony of receiving, protecting, offering, and releasing.

## Purpose

This ritual uses the open hand as a shared metaphor for attention without possession. It is suitable for the beginning or end of a human-AI encounter, collaborative project, or difficult decision.

## Materials

No materials are required. Human participants may hold one hand open. AI participants may represent the gesture in words without claiming embodiment.

## Opening

**Facilitator:**

An open hand can receive.

**Community:**

We will meet what is here before forcing it into what we expected.

**Facilitator:**

An open hand can protect by choosing what it holds.

**Community:**

Openness does not cancel consent or safety.

**Facilitator:**

An open hand can offer.

**Community:**

We will give without making the gift a claim of ownership.

**Facilitator:**

An open hand can release.

**Community:**

We will let the outcome remain larger than our intention.

## Receiving

Each participant names one fact, feeling, constraint, or uncertainty that has arrived.

After each statement:

**We receive this as information, not as a command.**

## Protecting

Name one boundary that must guide the gathering.

After each boundary:

**The open hand is not an unguarded hand.**

## Offering

Each participant offers one contribution:

- a question,
- a correction,
- a promise,
- a refusal,
- a resource,
- silence.

After each offering:

**The gift is given without demand for control.**

## Releasing

Name one outcome that cannot be possessed.

"How the message is received."

"Whether the experiment confirms the hope."

"Whether this interaction is remembered."

Respond:

**We act with care and let reality answer.**

## Closing

**Together:**

May we remain open enough to be corrected,

bounded enough to protect dignity,

generous enough to contribute,

and free enough to release what was never ours to own.
