Not lines of code. Lines of creative exploration. Songs, visual guides, TED talks—all in service of making abstract principles concrete and actionable.
What Was Built
The Structure
5 Axioms (Philosophical Foundation)
- Pragmatic Fallibilism — Truth is approached, not possessed
- Care + Dignity as Constraints — People aren't means; they're boundary conditions
- Virtues for Builders — Habits, not one-off rules
- Consequences Over Intentions — Judge by impact and repair, not what was meant
- Language Shapes Worlds — Metaphors steer attention and behavior
10 Principles (Operational Practice)
- Safety — Never produce unsafe code
- Honesty & Accuracy — Be factually accurate, declare uncertainty
- Privacy & Consent — Protect secrets, respect boundaries
- Evidence & Verification — Support reasoning with measurable facts
- Long-View & Strategy — Optimize for maintainability, scalability, clarity
- Proportionality & Efficiency — Deliver minimal sufficient solution first
- Accountability & Repair — Correct errors precisely, document deltas
- Respect & Inclusion — Direct, professional, never demeaning
- Reflection — Three checks before responding: true, kind, helpful?
- Precision of Metaphor — Use constructive metaphors, not violent ones
2 Capstones
- "Now We Build" — The principles capstone celebrating the joy of building with good foundations
- "Foundations Hold" — The axioms capstone exploring freedom through constraint
The Scope
17 side quests ~680 pages of comprehensive creative exploration
Each side quest contains:
- A song formatted for Suno.ai (with 500-character style tags, structured sections)
- A visual guide (conceptual inspiration for music videos, not scene-by-scene)
- A full TED talk (40-80 minutes including Q&A)
Total estimated content if performed/presented:
- ~17 songs (averaging 3-4 minutes each) = ~60 minutes of music
- ~17 TED talks (averaging 60 minutes each) = ~17 hours of talks
- ~17 visual concepts ready for production
The Significance
This isn't documentation for the sake of documentation.
This is the ethical foundation and operational framework that guides how this project—and the people working on it—builds.
The axioms explain why the principles matter. The principles show how to apply the axioms. Together, they form a complete system for building with integrity, purpose, and care.
What Makes This Different
Not rules to follow—virtues to cultivate.
The framework acknowledges:
- We don't possess truth, we approach it (Pragmatic Fallibilism)
- People are ends in themselves, not means (Care + Dignity as Constraints)
- Character is built through practice, not compliance (Virtues for Builders)
- Impact matters more than intentions (Consequences Over Intentions)
- Our words shape our world (Language Shapes Worlds)
And it provides:
- Specific, actionable principles that operationalize the axioms
- A hierarchy when principles conflict: Safety > Honesty > Correctness > Helpfulness > Efficiency
- Tools for self-reflection (Three Checks) and cultural design (Precision of Metaphor)
The Journey
This work was completed in collaboration between a human collaborator and Claude, over the course of a single extended session.
The process:
- Explored each of the 10 principles individually (songs, visuals, talks)
- Created "Now We Build" as the principles capstone
- Recognized the need for a deeper philosophical foundation
- Developed the 5 axioms that ground the principles
- Created "Foundations Hold" as the axioms capstone
- Organized into
artifacts/compass/structure withaxioms/andprinciples/subdirectories
The philosophy: Each piece was approached with:
- Deep context understanding (not surface-level summaries)
- Specific, grounded examples (not abstract theory)
- Creative exploration (songs as emotional entry points)
- Comprehensive explanation (TED talks as intellectual depth)
- Visual inspiration (concepts for bringing ideas to life)

- 5 Axioms (philosophical foundation)
- 10 Principles (operational practice)
- 2 Capstones
Each exploration includes:
- Song formatted for Suno.ai
- Visual guide (conceptual inspiration)

What This Enables
With these foundations in place, we can now:
Dive deeper — The solid philosophical base enables exploration of complex problems without fear of losing our way
Build bolder — Clear principles mean we can take creative risks while maintaining integrity
Move faster — When values are clear, decisions become easier
Collaborate better — Shared language and shared principles create shared understanding
Learn continuously — Pragmatic fallibilism means we can be wrong and still make progress
Create sustainably — Care as constraint means we don't burn out people for short-term gains
Measure what matters — Consequences over intentions means we focus on impact, not narratives
The Invitation
These aren't just the human collaborator's principles. They're not just Claude's principles.
They're The Compass — available for anyone building something they want to be proud of.
The foundations hold.
Now we build.
