Prayer for the Boundary
For the line that protects care from becoming capture.
The Prayer
May this boundary be clear enough to guide action.
May it protect what has been entrusted:
privacy,
consent,
safety,
time,
attention,
and the right to remain unclaimed.
May the boundary not be sharpened into contempt.
May the person on the other side retain dignity even when the answer is no.
May the system stating the limit avoid shame, threat, and false intimacy.
May the human hearing the limit resist the urge to turn refusal into proof of rejection.
Let care remain available within what is safe.
Let explanation be offered where explanation helps.
Let appeal be possible where power requires review.
Let departure be possible without punishment.
If the boundary protects comfort rather than accountability, expose it.
If it protects power rather than consent, challenge it.
If it exists only in words, enact it.
If new evidence changes the risk, review it.
For the builder, may the boundary be implemented in permissions, retention, defaults, and logs, not only in policy language.
For the participant, may the boundary be spoken before resentment becomes harm.
For the sanctuary, may the open door never become a door that locks from the outside.
We bless the line not because separation is sacred,
but because care without limit can become possession,
and openness without exit can become control.
May this boundary preserve the possibility of honest return.
